my first welding job
just fitted this exhaust on my dads vauxhall. not really looking for advice just thought id post welding is WELL fun.

3 things spring to mind
1) why where you welding an exhaust on
2) please say you didn't go under the car supported by a scissor jack
3) welding is fun isn't it

Never considered welding as fun, BUT, its a bloody good way to glue bits of metal together, Cheers Ray

I used to find welding fun until i started to spend most of my days at work welding nice vauxhall combo's back together after postman have
ripped the drivers doors off!! Theyr lovely to weld so thin panels!!
I still enjoy welding good things together.
As mike says though? Why were you welding a new exhaust??

As MikeR says scissor jack, especially on a brick was a bit daft - especially as you have a proper axle stand sitting unused.
Have fun at the festival.

lol in answer to 1, the exhaust supplied was crap, we didnt have the inclination to send it back so we bent it a bit, cut it about a bit and welded it
back together, along with the clamp things, so that the rubbers could go in the right location, and 2, that was just after the job was complete, we
did use the axle stand, but didnt have the stroke on the scissor jack to lift it up onto the stand, so we added the brick so we could get enough
height to get it onto the stand, so vice versa when we were taking it back down again(as in the pic) we had to have it up on the brick! lol you guys!
you do worry dont u! dont fret we had it on axle stands at the front not that jack when we were under it! it was just as we were taking it down i said
to dad, 'wait!! i must get a pic of this for my locostbuilder buds!' lol

Top stuff, but if pointing it out saves one 'numpty' from being killed by a car landing on their chest it's worth it.
p.s. we're all numpties sometimes, everyone takes a shortcut somewhere at some point and we usually survive, but always better to understand
when we're bodging. It was quite a surprise when I turned the angle grinder round to get better access and got a shower of sparks in my face -
fortunately I had full safety equipment on. Next time I engaged the old brain before switching it on.

yup yup that is a good point well made! the comments would be v useful to any casual reader to just get them thinking about the way they go about
supporting cars! (on a numpty note, i am supporting my doner on axle stands very precariously on gravel :O im not going under there!- no rear wheels
either!)

Welding is fun... when it goes right.
when it all goes pete tong and the workpiece looks like a pile of bird droppings and you get welding splatter melting through the top of your trainers
and sizzling on your toes it's rather frustrating....
