Corsa Tin Top

My Daughters 1994 1.2 8V Corsa Merit has destroyed its water pump which in turn has let go of the cam belt so both need replacing. The job looks simple enough but I have a couple of problems. First of all the cam belt became loose because it also drives the water pump so now the bottom crank pulley and cam shaft pulley timing marks are all over the place. Second thing is that the crankshaft pulley needs to be removed so I can remove the plastic timing belt cover.
So

a) how do I re-align both timing marks so the car will run right when put back together?

and

b) how do I stop the crankshaft pulley turning when I try to undo the bolt?

if its anything like my 98 2.0 ecotec, the timing belt cover tucks in behind the pulley, and with the removal of 3 bolts it tip forward, and slides out from behind.

different engine of course, so i don't know, but you may not have to worry about the crank pulley. only a small weight off, right enough

Its been a while since I worked on one of these.

I think the cam pully mark should be at 12 o'clock and iirc the crank pully mark at around 2 o'clock. There are timing marks on the belt cover and rocker cover.

When you fit the water pump and belt, turn the engine over with a ratchet before starting just incase there has been any piston - valve contact.

Also, when you adjust the tensioner remember that when you set it you should always be on TDC or the tensioner will read incorrectly.

I hope this helps.

Mark.
