payapl and ebay

I don't accept paypal but notice that ebay assumes you do and expects and paypal email address. (yes, I haven't advertise on ebay for some time).

Anyways, I put in a non-existant ebay address. (two initials @ my works address) - nobody will have that address.

Was this a wise move or not?

I think if you do this and the person tries to pay via paypal the money will be sent to the none existing address, paypal used to accept the money and then send an email to that address saying their is money being sent to you and then ask you to register to collect it. Not sure if there is any time limit on it, but I think the send can cancel the payment since it wont officially have been collected. Or something like that.

No because some mupet will try and pay you by it, know mater how clear you make it in the listing.

Greedy ebay now try and make you give paypal as a payment option for some things.

They say it makes it more secure, I say its because it makes them shed loads of extra cash

Guess if they check while the auction is running they will pull the advert!! Dont blame you for not accepting Paypal though so i'd be interested in hearing what happens on this!!! Keep us informed - we can all cancel our Paypal accounts then!!

I guess another problem might come when the auction ends - the buyer might be trying to make payment to a non-existant account!!

yes - that is the theory. The payer will not be able to pay.

The flaw may be that ebay/paypal may figure out the loophole or someone sets up a paypal account with that e-mail address and grabs the money.... but that is then the sellers battle to get their money back not mine! - The ad does state payment by cheque or cash.

We'll see how this works out.

well, one of my listings was pulled becasue of the word "cash"

quote:
Why did we remove your listing?

Your listing(s) contains the following information:

cash

You may only accept cash if it's on delivery or cash for in-person transactions.

Now need to check if I have been refunded listing fee.

What I've been doing on the engine I am selling is to say £25 by paypal within 24 hours, rest by cash on collection. I figure I can afford to lose the £25.

Not had any problem doing it that way

BTW, amazing the number of people who wanted to pay the whole amount by Paypal, doesn't seem to matter what you put in the advert, they just read it the way they want to.
