I've been out and about all day with the kids ikea for breakfast then onto metal supermarket at Ibrox (very nice guys and very helpful) then
visit my old garage and blag a free engine crane from a guy i used to work with. then just trying to keep a 4 year old and a 8 month old happy for the
rest of the day until the wife gets in. although my oldest was quite impressed at metal supermarket when the guy used the big saw

Looks like it was a day to visit Metal Supermarkets - I went to the one at Pumpherston for a few bits of bar for the lathe.
Then I went to see AndyW7de at Waterjet Scotland and saw him cut out my pair of chain drive differential support plates in about 1 minute flat

I did think you had 10 working days myself but having done some checking they are indeed 100% correct. This is confirmed on the VOSA website. Its free
if you leave the car there and let them do the work but not if you take it home. Changed 2 years ago now apparently.
linky thing

That's what I experienced just recently - 10 working days. My garage failed KC two weeks ago on rear brakes (good call, KC didn't have
any) and I was allowed to take the car elsewhere and have it repaired and the return again within the 10 days for my free retest.
It does actually state the new rule on the MOT failure sheet too but I didn't point that out to my garage when I noticed...
