Finally a battery that makes electric vehicles at least feasible

6000 charge cycles is about 10 years charging around 2 times a day.

10mins brings it into range of being able to re-charge at a petrol station equivalent rather than needing sockets in the work car park or at the station.

What kind of current is going to be required to handle such a charge rate? You'd have to get a special supply for your house to do this.

I wonder too how much these battery’s are going to cost, I'd be perfectly happy using Lithium battery’s for my car but I'm not willing to spend the huge amount of money to buy them.

Of course you will need a special charging system, do you honestly think that governments of the world will not levy a new tax on electric vehicles as soon as they become commen enough?

To do so they will need to have some control over the charging of them, so a special supply would be perfect.

The report is misleading, lead acid batteries have a round 500 recharge cycles with reducing power up to around 1000 cycles.
I'm sure lithium batteries already have a recharge cycle life of around 5000.
The new Lightning EV is supposed to recharge to 80% capacity in 10 mins but needs a 3 phase power supply to do it.
I find either claim of recharge time as highly unlikely in the real world due to the sort of current that would be required.
As has been said b4 it's only when you look at replacements that you realised how well packaged the energy in a gallon of petrol (or diesel) is packaged!

it looks like they are quoting a 5000 recharges with a 90% DOD (depth of discharge) with only a 10% reduction in output. Lithium ion give greater than 2000 at 80% and 3000 at 70% (see thundersky site). If its true it would be brilliant as this is all at the high charge speed which a LI battery couldn't support.
