train timetables / journey planner

Looking for a point in the right direction here.......

I dont do trains normally but i have a stag weekend to go to in blackpool and i cant see me being in a fit state to drive back the morning after so as they used to say im going to 'let the train take the strain'

Im struggling to find a website that will give me timetables and fares.

Any regular train users out there who can point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Ray's link is the 'independent' site, it will refer you to other sites for payment, one of which will be the Trainline. A lot of these sites charge for booking - just a bit of info if you want to book on National Express (mostly the east coast mainline) is that they give 10% discount for online bookings using their own site.
