example engine

Hey there

My current job involves doing science presentations and workshops with primary school kids. I was wondering if maybe a engine workshop would be a good activity for them. deals with alot of quite basic scientific principals in an exciting why

Can anyone suggest a small (the smaller the better) engine that would be good to take apart. Was thinking maybe a cart engine or a lawn mower or something?? It would be good if we could get it to run

Don't suppose anyone has anything kicking about do they?

Thanks for the help again

Rupert

When I was at college we stripped and rebuilt a single cylinder bike engine (probably about 500cc capacity). I've no idea what make/model.

Benefits of it were all aluminium construction (relatively light if you have to take it around) and the block was bolted to a stand for ease of access.

If you're just looking to demonstrate the moving bits then it can't be difficult to find one with knackered bearings etc for next to nothing.
