Good evening everyone.Well,I've bought the book,found the forums,got my Sierra donor,bought a welder and bandsaw and now i'm confused!!!! I've opted for the McSorly +4 plans.My donor is a F reg,1.8 Sierra estate.Does anyone know of any chassis drawings for the Sierra rear axle? Will my engine fit o.k...I believe it's a CVH engine.What mods are needed for the Sierra uprights?I bought the GTS plans but have opted for the McSorley ones...is this the right direction to go in?Sorry if I'm covering old questions but I'm a welder/fabricator not a mechanic!! Went to Newark show....absolutey loved the bright yellow and bright orange with racing stripes locosts that drove around and parked up together..don't know if the owners come on here.Thanks in advance for any replies
If I were you, think it would be better to go forth and follow the GTS plans as they are specificall designed around the Sierra donor and all other
parts like the bodywork etc. will all fit fine if you buy them from GTS.
Also, you'll need to buy the De-Dion kit from GTS for your back axle.

Thanks pat,I have read some good reports about GTS on this site so think I will probably go down that route.Why do I have to have the de dion back axle?I've seen it mentioned before but don't quite know it's need.Will the standard Sierra one not fit?
The book Locost uses the live axle from an Escort MKII. This thing combines the suspension and transmission functions.
The suspension system from the Sierra (independant wheels with semi trailing arms) is not that easy/suitable to use in your Locost.
With the De Dion solution you keep from your donnor all the transmission bits and throw away the suspension, which is replaced by the De Dion axle.
A De Dion axle is something like a live axle but only with the suspension function, and without all the transmission parts.
Type a search in Google with "live axle" and "de dion", you will find comprehensive pics and a lot of valuable informations.
In simple terms (the kind i understand) a de-dion system converts your sierra independent suspension so that it works and fits like a MK2 Escort live
axle. See , easy!!
The CVH will fit into the GTS chassis no problems but you will probably want to upgrade to something with a little more poke. Cheers. Scotty

Thanks to all who replied,I'm a lot clearer on that now.Next question is what do I need to do to my Sierra uprights to make them suitable and do I need to extend my steering rack to suit?
I think the Sierra uprights will bolt straight onto GTS upper and lower wishbones using a stub adaptor thingy.
The only thing you need to do to the steering rack (if going GTS) is to use some of their extensions.
