Foglight wiring

I've noticed that my foglamp is mastered by my sidelights & not my dip beam as per iva , is this the norm on the mnr loom?

Did it get changed IIRC. either SVA and/or early IVA regs allowed the rear fog to come on with sides. (which IMO, it should. It seems the even the rule makes dont understand how best to use fog lights!)

From IVA regs No 4:

"Rear fog lamps;
1.
They must be operational
2.
The correct number must be fitted to the vehicle (Table 1)
3.
They must only emit a red light
4.
The rear fog lamp(s) must only illuminate when dipped beam, main beam or front fog lamps are lit (See Note 3)
5.
They must be positioned correctly to meet
a.
the positional requirements of Table 1
b.
the angles of visibility requirements of Table 1
6.
Must be fitted with an operational “tell-tale” lamp (non-flashing) visible from the driving position
7.
Either the switch or tell tale must clearly indicate that operation relates to the Rear Fog lights (see Note 1).
8.
Must not be operated by a brake control
9.
Fitted so that the reflector is facing squarely to the rear
10.
An optional rear fog lamp must form a matched pair with the obligatory lamp."

Think you might be right abou the loom being wrong as I seem to remember a few failures for this.

Loggy is also right about the change from SVA to IVA, which is probably why.

Not IVA related but a coincidence all the same:

My wiring loom started life in an early mk3 Escort but has been significantly modified since. However some parts remain original, such as the wiring for the fog light switch. I have been changing switches and doing some comprehensive rewiring recently and it was the turn of the fog light switch on Sunday. Having not touched the wiring for some time, and being unable to read my handwritten labels, I decided to consult the book.

According the Haynes manual the rear fog is powered by the nearside dipped beam. This wasn't how I remembered it operating, but I set about findingg all the correct wires all the same. After a while of head scratching and belling wires I still could not find the feed wire from the dipped beam circuit. A flash of sense (accompanied with the thought "why didn't I do this an hour ago???" came over me and I decided to find the wiring plug I had cut off many moons ago to check the wires on it. Sure enough there was no feed from the dipped beam circuit and the feed was in fact from the side lights. In fact the feed from the side lights was connected to the backlighting on the switch and then a loop of small guage wire joined this to input side of the switch.

IIRC the rear fog on an old 205 I had would only operate with dipped beam and would go off when you switched to full beam. Rather odd?

AS said, no help with IVA I am afraiod but just sharing my story....

I best swap the feed over to the dip beam then
