Savage Engine Start Button
orbital - 18/1/09 at 10:57 PM

Hi All,

If I get a Savage engine start button will I need to use a relay? The start button I have at the moment is rated at 40A so I don't need a relay with it. Thing is it's such a pain in the arse to actually push! The spring inside it is that strong it makes my dash flex when I push it in!

Cheers

Dave

Cheers Chris,

It's a 2L Pinto. No idea what current it's switching to be honest. Looks like I'll have to find a different one then as I haven't got time to start putting relay's in, just want to swap the switch.

Cheers

Dave

i did not need one on the busa if i remember right it was 10a max

Yes. The starter motor on a car draws up to 200 A.
The switches are probably 10A max

Even the starter-mounted solenoid could draw 10A or so.

The starter will draw that current but it is the solenoid you are switching. I connected the feed to the relay via my ignition light so the switch will only start the engine when the ignition light is on, dead when engine running.
