Wiring a power socket
cerbera - 8/3/14 at 11:54 AM

Going to install a power socket but am falling over at the first hurdle.
As there are no instructions with the item I'm not 100% sure which is the positive and negative terminals on the socket.

Anyone help?

I'd guess that A will be the +12v connection - but one way to find out is to use a multimeter to find out which terminal goes to the centre pin of the socket (or use a bulb and battery).

A looks very like the + to me. Steve.

B is connected to the outer, so that is negative.

B is negative, (A) centre is positive, without a doubt.

These things try to make the earth connection before the +ve so that you don't randomly earth through something else as you push the item into the socket. That would make A +ve and B -ve

Cheers guys, that's what I thought but it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion before I break something.
