Be Carefull Guys
ashg - 19/11/09 at 11:32 PM

just a little warning to everyone. dont try and run your car up to temp without making sure you have a bead and good hose clip on all your hot water pipes. today one of my pipes burst off with the water temp at plus 100 degrees. resulting in two silly forum members with third degree burns and 2 good shots of morphine and a trip for gingea1pom to east grinstead special burns unit.

here are the picts ginge actually has no skin on his neck or arm. its all covered up with jelly and plastic underneath

be carefull guys

ReMan - 19/11/09 at 11:34 PM

Ohhhh, nasty.
Well i presume its the morphine thats keeping you looking so happy then?

Get well soon

ashg - 19/11/09 at 11:38 PM

ginge was proper out of it he got a good 10mg of the stuff

liam.mccaffrey - 19/11/09 at 11:39 PM

keep up the pain meds guys thats gonna hurt like you don't know!!

Keep the pain from taking hold rather than trying to get rid of it once you're in agony. trust me!!

iank - 19/11/09 at 11:39 PM

That's going to sting in the morning when the morphine wears off.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

skodaman - 19/11/09 at 11:50 PM

Ooeerr! I don't want to go to East Grinstead.

hobbsy - 19/11/09 at 11:51 PM

Was wondering why you looked so happy until I read about the morphine.

Next time get ginge to set up a Hesco barrier around your car - that should stop it

oadamo - 19/11/09 at 11:51 PM

owned
i done the same with a diahatsu charade i undone the rad cap and the water hit me in the face, all my skin started peeling off my face.

blakep82 - 20/11/09 at 12:35 AM

omega0684 - 20/11/09 at 01:09 AM

owelly - 20/11/09 at 04:36 AM

Get well soon guys.

Staple balls - 20/11/09 at 04:42 AM

Silly buggers.

Least there's no major damage.

stevebubs - 20/11/09 at 04:49 AM

Mr Messy? Surely more like Mr Bump?

mcBontempi - 20/11/09 at 06:49 AM

also dont start your engine with tissue paper in the inlet!(left there for protective purposes)
, im telling you it was so close, if id just opened the throttle things could have gone a little messy.

speedyxjs - 20/11/09 at 07:11 AM

Wow, thats nasty

I could have had a similar problem a few weeks back when my oil pipe gave up for the same reason at 96 degrees (water temp)

It now has jubilee clips on it and is riveted to the chassis to phisically cannot move.

roadrunner - 20/11/09 at 07:18 AM

More importantly, hows the car.

carpmart - 20/11/09 at 07:33 AM

Two things spring to mind:

1 - I'm sorry but when the meds wear off, that's going to hurt!

2 - The watch over the bandages is class!

MikeR - 20/11/09 at 07:41 AM

NEver done that - but did open a radiator cap once a car was up to temperature (it had just been for a razz round). Yes it was stupid, i wasn't thinking straight.

It flew about as high as a house and I was covered in little drops of the water. That stung - you guys must be in agony by now!

Hope you get well soon.

1st rule of A&E - if you get given morphine then the doctors think it's major damage.

BenB - 20/11/09 at 08:11 AM

Ouch! Nasty.

On the plus side 3rd degree burns are so deep they tend to destroy the pain fibres and are actually less painful than 2nd degree burns....

Silver lining?!?!?!

get well soon!

ashg - 20/11/09 at 08:21 AM

the only third degree ones was on the top of ginge's arm and a little bit on his neck. the rest were between first and second degree. this morning i have a blister that used to be my hand lol. nerofen is being strangely effective. havent got a clue why

So sorry to hear this Ash,

All that effort over the last fortnight by the two of you to get the car on the stand this weekend.

Only for something like this to happen.

As no one else has pointed this out... If you get burnt get cold water over the area and keep it up for at least 10 mins. No it doesn't fix the burn but when it heals there is much less scarring.

imp paul - 20/11/09 at 10:43 AM

owwww get well soon lads

Beleive me they did.
Ash had the hose pipe on him, and Ginge was in the cold shower.

Also as a secondary point, Don't be tempted to put cream or lotions on the burn.

bear in mind that that the water is under pressure so would be over 100, nearer to 110 C - once it bursts out, it would try to boil and then condenses - the heat transferred to skin be more than just 100 C water. (latent heat of vsporisation?)

nasty.

take it easy + speedy recovery.
