Just need a little reassurance from the collective that what I'm thinking is right before I wire up a new thermostat.

Boiler Wiring Diagram


Terminal 1 of the boiler goes to terminal 1 of the thermostat.
Terminal 2 of the boiler goes to terminal 4 of the thermostat.

Depends on the make of stat, on Honywell stats its normally terminals 1 & 3.

Just check continuity on terminals and turn stat up and down if unsure which are switching.

If your new room stat is an 'owl' one as per the paperwork.
Then yes your correct.
