A couple of my neighbours seem to have got nice shiny wireless routers for christmas and they havent set up any type of security, i can also get into
each router using default admin passwords, what do i do?
p.s i dont really get on with any of them!
else
change settings sow they cant get it.
Anyway they can see you 2 sow be aware of your own security!
Tks
cancel your own internet and enjoy the free surfing
treat them the way you would like to be treated yourself .makes for a happy life.
here's a completely off the wall suggestion: go round and tell them about the security holes, and offer to help fix them... maybe then you would get on with them?
when we use to have dail up my sister got a new laptop with a intel wireless enabled processor and we could pick up a person wireless. we got are
broadband 3 months later and then the person moved away are somthing cause we coulden't pick up the singal anymore
was able to find out the bt account username and password with no bother aswell

He he. I reckon that once they get back to work and start chatting they'll realise that more and more people are telling them to secure it so they will pretty soon. In the meantime its how generous do you feel? Get it used if you don't even say so much as a hello in passing I say or else, like above,if they're not so bad chap their door and tell them. I suppose you can always fall out with them again at any time but its harder to make friends again.
Hey tell the one you get on with best and write a tunnel i to the other router so you can still get in when they secure it!
Caber
Just thought. Don't tell none of them then you'll be able to access the net whilst building in your garage. Now where's that wireless thing of mine....
I got fed up with my nieghbours high powered router intertefering with my wireless so i connected and switched off their wireless.... turns out they weren't using it anyway!
sure even when they are encyted some people can still acess the internet with out knowing the passwords and stuff, it just learning those skills
Careful here, interfering and / or using without permission is an offence under the Computer Misuse Act.
So, dont do it, or if you do, then at least spoof and rotate / change your own MAC address regularly. So you are less traceable.
I dont have your problem, In the last 14 years, 5 of my 6 imediate neighbours (3 each side of the road) have moved away, and the 6th has the house up
to let.
I dont know why. Cant be my 40ft Lattice Aerial Mast, or the 24 year old Land Rover on the drive (my daily drive), or me angle grinding in the
evening, or testing the Rover V8 with no manifolds, let alone exhausts.
Nah... They are just a bunch of spoilsports, who think "OLD" starts at 3 years when talking cars
Bah.... Humbug Its Xmas time, Be Good Willed to one another.
EDIT:
Set their SSID's.... ALL the SAME (name), so their Laptops access each others WLan's... that should confuse things a bit.
Or get into the routers DHCP server, and set the DNS server settings to some random (real) IP address that is not a DNS server!... not much will work
after that, and not so easy for them to spot either.
oops... I am being evil now!

well u live in cambridge people there are rich and have brand new range rover and land rover every second year before the mot expires and don't
take part in much pratical engineering so they don't, but for those things to make them move away, you'd probabily be better of not knowing
them
why does the list of things to change it to keep on growing?
[Edited on 27/12/06 by goodall]
Any one else getting a wonky looking poll? I have a growing list with everyone's name on the bottom line
yup, we broke it!
I say leave them alone at worst, or remind them about security at best. remember karma
hmmmm. Evil is as evil does.

how do I know if my wireless is protected??
when I log on it says its found 2 others
But I still needed a password?
this was with a phone hub
When you view the available wireless networks it tells you if they are protected or not.
The best thing to do is use MAC filtering if your router supports this as limits the connections to your individual network cards MAC address
