Taping for oil pressure sensor
bassett - 23/11/08 at 10:22 PM

Hi, all my sensors and gauges have arrived which is great but the oil pressure sendor came in 1/8 NPT. Seems a common size but im struggling to do it as i cant find the right gear. So does anyone know where i can get a tap for this, preferably individual and what drill hole size is required before taping as ive only got my list for metric.
Cheers
Adam

My Hydra Tools book says 8.4mm if hole is reamed, 8.75mm if hole is drilled.

Since most of us don't have fancy drill sets (myself included) I'd go for an 8.5mm or 11/32" (8.731mm)

where do you plan to tap it?water to oil cooler's bolt?
cheers

Cheers paul if i get the tap thats good to know although i am thinking now it might be easier and cheaper to take it to my mates garage as he should have all the bits and im unlikely to need them again.

Antonio from what ive seen its best to tap the oil cooler bolt as its very thick and long and also if you mess it up it should be pretty easy to get hold of another.

Why not put it into the oil gallery plug with an adapter plug? No drilling required.

I'm assuming its an R1 in which case...

The gallery is M16x1.5 thread and the plugs (on my '06 5VY) are silver, slightly domed with an 8mm allen key hole. One on each end of the block.

The set I got for the adapter was Durite number 0-523-98 which have 1/8th NTP thread in them.

Hi Adrian, Im sure you gave me a response to an earlier question of where to put the sensor. I never found where you meant and this didnt seem too difficult other than not owning the tool My mate in the garage looks like he can help so hopefully will be done by the end of the week.
