Toyota 4age to type 9 info req`d please
snippy - 28/11/08 at 10:35 PM

I`m mounting a 4age engine up to a type 9 gearbox. My 4age has come from an MR2. I understand that I need to obtain a spigot bearing to go in the end of the crank to support the type 9`s gearbox shaft as the 4age is in effect changing from a FWD to RWD configuration. I searched the net and found Toyota part no: 90363-12003 listed as the part required. Today I collected said part and although the outside diameter fits into my crank, the internal hole is too small for the gearbox shaft to fit into.
Is this therefore the wrong part or am I missing something?
What have others done to mate a type 9 to 4age?

You are missing something, that bearing was meant for a Toyota T50 input shaft, the good thing is, you could have a local machinist bore it to the size of your type 9 input shaft.
Question, are Toyota T50 gear boxes not available in the UK?

as said you can have one machined, have you checked the sze of the one available for the Zetec conversion ? do you also need an adaptor plate for block to bellhousing ?

I think Sylvia do a lot with this engine configuration they may be worth a call

I`v already got the bellhousing to convert type 9 onto 4age engine. My mate has bought a Westfield complete but with a blown engine (4age). Having sourced another 4age we`re in the process of swapping the engines over. The old engine clearly has a spigot bearing in the end of the crank that looks nothing like the one I got from Toyota today. I`m wondering whether it`s just the standard spigot like I used on my Zetec installation in my own car?
Was hoping someone out there has used a 4age and can answer this as thats all whats preventing us refitting the new engine.
Cheers.

Does the Bearing go in the flywheel or crank ??? if it goes in the flywheel.. then just swap it ..

It goes in the crank. I`ve tried to remove the old one using the `fill the hole with grease and then insert tight fitting bolt and hit with hammer` technique but that hasn`t ejected the old one.

Raw Engineering have the spigot bearing you want.

As above RAW usually have them in stock and they're about £10-15. I'm actually using two in my crank as I wanted to minimise any mis-alignment between the GBX and crank.

"Question, are Toyota T50 gear boxes not available in the UK?"

I am using a T50 box which i sourced nearly 5 years ago with great difficulty, they are like Rocking Horse POO to get hold of now unfortunately! shame really as they are a much lighter box and keeps in the toyota theme which i like

Thanks for the replies so far. I tried to ring Raw this morning but no reply so I guess they don`t work Saturdays. I`ll try again next week.

Some days they do work Saturdays but usually only when a customer needs to pick up parts etc.
