I saw this on ebay, yes I know the auction has finished, but thought I'd ask if anyone knows what has been done/what the combinations are. is it
a zetec block with a cvh head? if so hows does it work!

Ned.
Ned,
Zetecinside has some links/info on the conversion. I think it's relatively simple.
Ian
is called a ZVH, cvh head, zetec bottom end. These apparently work very well, seeing as they can be tuned to 450+ bhp, and can propel a fiesta to 170
mph
mmm, would be interesting in a locost
Ned
You need to speak with chrisW on this one,i'm sure he knows someting about this method.
I'm also sure its come up before on here too, just needs a bit of searching.

People only run the CVH 8 valve head on the zetec so that they can use their stock rs turbo manifolds and management still.
It you can afford new engine management you are better off sticking with the 16 valve head.
Doug.
I was just curious as i *thought* the cvh was an ohv engine and the zetec was an ohc engine. am i totally wrong here, as otherwise i couldn't see
how they would fit together properly to drive the cams/valves.
this is all out of sheer curiousity btw!
cheers,
Ned.
ok so i did a little search and skim read this site: http://www.jimhearne.co.uk/zvh.htm which explains the conversion. interesting stuff..
cheers all.

So Ned,
You are still alive then!
Where've you been- I hope it was working on the car!
James
How about just bolting the CVH turbo inlet manifold on a zetec, and lowering compression?

Seen a few people use a sandwich plate between the head and block on the zetec to lower compression, then bolt on RS CVH turbo by redrilling the head as some of the studs are in the wrong place. I don't see why they don't cut off the CVH turbo manifold exhaust flange and weld it onto a zetec exhaust manifold flange save having to drill the head.

The sandwich plate was used on Xflows years ago to enable flat top pistons to be fitted, you put a head gasket either side of it James.

goto forums and have a look round - theres a load of the RS boys using the ZVH conversion on ere, but ti's considered old hat now, and the
blacktop zetec is the way forward for big power

Ok, have read a thing or two on this, and here's what I make of it..
It's really an upgrade option to the 1.6 CVH engine as found in that old favourite the RS turbo. It offers a relativekly simple capacity upgrade
from 1600 cc to anything from 1900-2100cc. The zetec bottom end is also stronger than the CVH, meaning it's relatively safe to get a high
compression engine by just cranking up the boost.
The weak point in the combination then becomes the head, at it's flow characteristics are poor in comparison with the 16v zetec. The next stage
for the ZVH upgrade then bacomes a stage 2 or 3 head. Of course by the time both of these have been done then price is not too far awya from a custom
turbo'd zetec. So I wouldnt do it if I didnt have an RST to start with.
also, with specialised engines now offering a 1900 block the ZVH seems to be less useful.
Personally, I would have the zeetc everytime.
Except I have a crossflow
