im thinking of upgrading my car from a 1.3 x-flow to a 1.6 or 1.8 zetec. Im trying to find out roughly how much work i will need to do to my car, the
car is a book built 7, how much bigger is a zetec than a x-flow. I have a type 9 gearbox so should bolt straight to that. but in terms of body
modifications what might i need to do with nosecone and bonnet if anything.
What is the best way to run a zetec megasquirt or other want to eventually be able to map the engine myself but all the electronics are all new to
me.

I believe there's only 2 or 3 "locost" sets of bodywork tall enough to take a zetec or similar without either having it hanging down

Electrics-wise, it's down to your budget. I went the emerald route, but only because I could get a cost-effective upgrade from my previous
emerald.
Megasquirt-n-Spark-EDIS would work just as well.

I can say that a Zetec will fit under the standard bodywork in a standard book chassis.
Myself and my brother did the conversion but I'm not good at explaining things.
The only mod we did I think was to cut and shut the sump. Also had to make an alternator bracket. There's more to it than that but it's
relatively easy.

thanks dimensions helpful. thats one thing i thought about is a remote sump so may be able to drop it down more.
Roadkill how far down did you drop your engine?
what sort of prices should i expect to pay for the electrics, any internet links?

I've just ripped the 1.8 put of my car in order to fit a 2L. Sitting on the trolly its 23" tall, unmodded sump tho so some inches could be
gained.
My set up with carbs, edis and Megajolt cost less than £500. You'll have to factor in a new exhaust tho as it comes out the other side.
I'm selling the engine with water rail if your interested

Yeah, you can ofcourse chop the sump or dry sump it to drop the engine down BUT the lowest part is the engine-gearbox mounting plate that sits further toward the middle of the wheelbase and will be what grounds first so I could not see any benefit in doing that.

I am still doubting what to do, will it be possible for me as non-UK based to get my locost SVA'd. If so, I think I will need to change my Xflow
setup to a Zetec as well.
What about engine and gearbox supports? Are they the same for Xflow and Zetec? I guess they will have to be modified as well?
was looking at the zetec with the exhaust on the same side as mine think its the older one not sure yet
what price you looking at for your engine Steve ?

hi i thought it would what needs doing to make it fit is it just the bellhousing change

thanks will look out for one of those then
what are the options for getting a spark and fuel injections just looked and megasquirt is expensive as i thought it would be, may just have to save
my pennys
I'm after £200 for my engine, I also have a bellhousing spare if you need one
