K-Series 1.4 source
Dick Axtell - 19/12/08 at 05:43 PM

Have been browsing thru previous posts on this. What is the consensus view - best source donor for 1.4 K series unit?

And what additional parts will be needed?

The bell-housing is one for sure, so if you see one for sale, pls let me know.

TIA

My 1.4 was ex Rover 25. but I got the engine on its own from a breakers rather than strupping a car myself.

I got the additional bits from Fisher Sportscars, who at the time were doing quite a lot of K-series engined cars. Off the top of my head, I needed:

bellhousing
clutch
clutch release arm
spigot bearing
starter

Dont know if its of interest I have a 1.4 K series engine in my metro (1990 Gta) which i bought for £20 as my daily run about (its ace it flies and with a wee bit of welding has got through 2 MOTs so far!). Cheap cars and easy to find

Thanks all for your replies, and especially to jolly Bah Humbug, for the following : -

1: bellhousing - Caterham, hopefully s/h part.

2: clutch - From which vehicle?

3: clutch release arm - presumably from same source as (2) above?

4: spigot bearing - Part no.?

5: starter - Why not use existing item?

TIA

Frontline put a lot of K series into Midgets using the type 9 gearbox, so sell everything you need (though probably not the cheapest route a one stop shop might be what you want).
