Crossflow cooling system

Hi Guys

The cooling system on my rebuilt crossflow is going to be filled this weekend but I have a few questions.

I am not using a heater, I have the burton filler neck on the head and the water pump bypass is plumbed into the inlet manifold.

Where do you fill the coolant to on the filler neck. Im guessing that if I overfill it, the 13psi cap will open when hot and blow the excess down the overflow pipe? or will it find another way out lol.

Also, the car had an expansion bottle before I stripped it. This is a metal bottle with a 13 psi cap on too. It has an overflow pipe above the cap seal as with the filler neck, but also has another inlet/outlet at the top of the bottle - this pipe travels down inside the bottle almost to the bottom.

The was plumbed into the overflow on the filler neck before although i haven't fitted it this time - will there be any benefit if i plumb this back in?

Thanks

Shaun

My x-flow is plumbed this way - he's describing a Pinto, but there's no significant difference. I don't have a pressure cap on the overflow bottle.

Are you sure that you don't have a pressurised system, with a header tank? Then you would have a pressure cap on the bottle - plumbing's quite a bit different though.

If yours is the first kind, then fill up to the overflow pipe, and fill the overflow bottle to just over the Min marking, if it has one.

hi

Thanks for the reply

The car used to have that system on but with a pressure cap on.

I will put the bottle back on and vent the cap!

Thanks
