Crazy Jay,
It's like everything else, when you're looking for them you never see them and then all of a sudden three come along at once! You don't have to get a Vitesse, the SD1 engine is fine for road use as the extra stiffness of the Vitesse block is only really required for the most highly modified engines. The Vitesse heads are virtually the same as the SD1 heads with the exception of the type of valves used. They are the same size on SD1 and Vitesse heads but the latter have waisted stems to improve flow. They are also recessed into the head for slightly better flow again. You can always fit Vitesse heads to an SD1 engine later.

Another thing to be aware of is that the Vitesse engine was also used in the Vanden Plas Efi SD1 cars.

Try to avoid pre-SD1 engines such as those from P5B and P6B cars as these have a number of disadvantages over the SD1 and later engines.

If you are planning to look for engines in Scotland then I can put you in touch with the guy I got mine from. He breaks various types of Rover including the SD1 and has wide connections and sources. U2U me if you want his phone number. He lives in Galston, Ayrshire which isn't that far from the Troon ferry terminal.

Cheers,
Craig.
