I haven't played wit the V8 for a while but pretty sure the answer is yes.

The question?

I have carb manifold for twin SUs. I need to replace the temp sender which is a bulb for a mechanical gauge.

I reckod that the bulb sits in water as oppose to an orifice in the alloy manifold - correct or not? (so I would need to drain the cooling system a bit).

Well seeing that it’s meant to show water temperature, rather than manifold temp

I think you are just trying to keep ahead on the posts count, won't work its inevitable

I've got that manifold and a pair of SU's too, new cam (in box), new valves (also still in their boxes), good heads (but valve seats need changed and both alloy rocker covers if your interested.

Yep, your right, it sits in the water (on a Land Rover V8).
I didn't drain mine when I changed it.
Just have the engine cold, unscrew one and quickly screw the new one in !

Yes you loose a bit of water but eaiser than draining and refill.

Cant stress enough - Do it when the engine is COLD, as the water can be under pressure and hot.
