To be fair, this was Humbug's idea at the Newlands meet.
With the IVA I believe it may be compulsory to have your exhaust fully covered/shielded.
Was wondering if it would be possible to keep the silencer inside the engine bay? I realise there's under-bonnet heating issues, but it seems to
be possible on an Mclaren SLR so why not a Locost...
Obviously it could mean some complex exhaust routing, but bikes manage it, so why not us?
This is assuming the silencer would fit!
Thoughts?
Cheers,
James
There was a 7 styled car, built by students from Huddersfield, that has taken years to get to market place?
Can't remember what it is called, but their BEC demonstrator had the silencer behind the radiator, but in front of the engine.

I thought in the last IVA draft, that had been dropped....
Might be wrong though!
good idea though, you could easily just wrap it up in exhaust tape to keep temps down
Silencer definately wont fit in mine. I beleive they are changing the draft to allow the same exhausts as we have atm. Just a rumour i heard
Last edition of kit car stated that it's been dropped after further consultation with industry representatives.
One less thing for IVA takers to worry about.
Can confirm that Peter and Simon at DJ Sportcars are telling their kit builders that this has been dropped.

CalvinX's first engine had the silencer inside the engine bay.
There's also a video of a ZZR1100 engined car on youtube with the silencer in the engine bay.
Does this mean that the IVA is now down to 7.5 hours?
A few more exceptions will bring it back down to the 4 hrs of the SVA.

I cant advise re the legalities of it, but the practicalities are pretty straight forward.
I run a big 2.5 inch silencer over the gearbox. Rotary engine are renown for their EGT's, especially with the turbo.
I have put some heat shielding where the pipe is close to the wing but I have had no problem with heat, even on track days were it gets put through
its paces
