Having discovered that i most likely have a 5pw (injected r1) thermostat on my 5JJ engine, my q is this:

Is there a threaded hole to accept the thermo unit on the thermostat?

(I would look but I am 300 miles away from my garage at the moment!)

in a word - nope.

The thermo-unit normally fits in the radiator so you will need an adaptor of the correct size to fit in your cooling system at an appropriate place
