Hi guys,
I bought a gealever extension turret from a guy on Ebay, arrived quickly, no probs there - I'm just slightly puzzled on how it fits. It seems to
be the same one that Rally Design sell - a plate to cover the existing lever hole, with a linkage mechanism underneath and a new lever hole behind.
Does the tin plate at the back of the gearbox need to be removed / modified to get the linkage in? I've asked the guy I bought it from, and
he's never fitted one...
Any ideas?

Yes it does, and you also need to utilise the plastic reverse stop too.

Yep - tap the tin plate out of the back. You will also need to tap out the reverse stop which is an inference fit and will tap out with a little effort. As Steve says, ensure the plastic clip is used - new ones are cheap from Ford if it is damaged - around about £1 or so
I need to get one of those too. Mocked up my scuttle ad the lever is underneath it!
Does anyone know where to get one for less than £60? The only ones ive managed to find are on ebay, and theyre not exactly locost!
I could try and make one, but to be honest, the day doing so is more valuable in other areas if you know what i mean!

Ive got plans to make one, and it wouldne be too difficult to do, but its just the time thing, but £60 isnt that locost!
i looked at buying one of these then i looked at how easy it is to make one for virtually nothing, took me an hour tops

Made mine following Davids website , including the quickshift conversion cost me £0.92 Works a treat .

I made on not dissimilar to mr Jenkins one (though I did do it independently without knowing about his first I hasten to add) and to be honest its WAY
better than the ones you can buy, as it removes the original bellcrank from the end of the shifter shaft and reuses it in the new position, whereas
the others keep the original bellcrank and add a new one, doubling the play in the mechanism.
I wouldn't sell one for less than £60 though, would take me 2 hours to make or thereabouts and the going rate is £30 an hour...............

LOL don't worry I do plenty of "charitable" work on here too!!!
On 3 days a week at work in the automotive industry since December means I do have to maintain income though, and I spanner for a Caterham team for
free as well as building my own and two other race cars on a charitable basis so other stuff does need to pay unfortunately.
What I do say is that anyone is free to use my workshop when I am around, and all the kit in it.
