High pressure pump and filter

Can you use one in a carb setup? I have a standard pump and filter for a FI engine, can i use these on carbs or do i need to buy low pressure ones?

Low the old Jags used twin SU pumps

The pump i have is off an x300 (94 - 97)

you will blow the carb apart with an FI Pump. Facet do some low pressure high flow ones or get one from a car that the carbs came from if applicable.

You can use an EFI pump but will need to supply a fuel return and add a restrictor in this, the fuel pipe then becomes a low pressure fuel rail.

Better to get a facet pump though, have a look at non efi rangerovers pumps on ebay.

One of these chaps will do.

Why would you want to do that? You'ld risk knackered the carbs.

EFi pumps are usually worth more 2nd hand than carbed pumps. Flog it on Ebay and buy yourself a cheap low pressure pump!!!

I think the price is swinging, the pump I have indicated above is for 2 x 1.5" SU carbs, the jag items are 2" SU carbs but this was a percieved upgrade by some on v8 rovers at some distant point in the past.

Its an unbranded facet type pump so 1/2 the price, will tick away until up to pressure.

no, the higher pressure (circa 30 psi) is gonna play havoc with your floats resulting in overfuelling, fuel spilling out hte overflow and possible damagage.

carbs run at 3 to 4 psi max.

twin low pressure would be thge way to go if you are worried about flow.

take a look at FSE - teh ysell the facet solid state - in 3 flavours (increas in flow).

I have the middle one on a 3.5 l V8 with twin 1 3/4 inch SUs and have not had any fuelling issues (well, not unitl the filter got blocked but that is not the pumps fault, well not directly).

60's and 70's Jags used two big SU electric pumps one for each tank BUT only one worked at a time -- a changeover switch on the dash controlled which tank & pump was in use.

The EFI pump won't work however you can pick up Rover SD1 carb model external electric pumps off Ebay cheap.

Thanks guys. The old pump can go on ebay when i get round to it. Will the filter be ok or is that designed for higher pressure flow?

It'll handle it BUT HP filters tend to be a lot bigger and heavier than the cheap plastic LP filters. It's a small consideration. But fundamentally you won't have a problem running a HP filter in place of a LP filter.....
