Im planning on making a roadster based on the Chris Gibbs book, but I am still trying to do my homework at the moment.
What clutch do people use when mounting a Silver-top zetec to a Type 9 Gearbox? And what metal shim do people use? As I tried them both tonight but
the original spigot on the Zetec clutch is not big enough to take the Type 9.
Do people not document their build progress like on other Forums Ive seen?
Many thanks, Ryan!
Ryan,
my silver top zetec is using the standard 2.0 zetec flywheel. Its also got the 2.0 zetec pressure plate but uses the Sierra clutch plate. You will
need to buy a specific spigot bearing to go in the end of your crank that allows the type 9 shaft to fit in it.
Have a look at www.zetec-cat.co.uk there is lots of useful zetec installation info on there.

Brilliant cheers, mate. Just noticed that someone who owned the gearbox has flipped the bellhousing upside down? Any reason for that apart from moving the starter motor?
Upside down bellhousing, thats an interesting proposition. On the haynes to get the zetec nice and far back, low in the chassis the starter and end of the clutch fork sit close to the chassis rails, with softish engine mounts I thought they coudl touch now and again. Flipping the bellhousing would move them out of the way, must admit didn't realise the bellhousing was symetrical. You'd have a longer routing for the clutch cable though.
I have a 1.9 xilvertop zetec with a type9 box. Its got a 1.8 flywheel mondeo 1.8 clutch and capri release bearing. With i think a pinto capri spigot
bearing.
Go here it tells you all you need to know.
Cheers all!
Yeah as said, dont know why the Bellhousing is upside down. Put that straight again I think.
