cleaning piston ring grooves??

How do people clean the piston ring grooves, assuming that they dont have an old set of rings to scrape around in the grooves??

I really dont know where hes gonna get rid of all that, erm, sliipery stuff. The spookiest thing is that the seller says hes got another 4 barrels "if anyones interested"!!! WTF??

am quickly coming to the conclusion that Vaseline is the best stuff for cleaning the ring grooves in ones piston??
