I have dry sumped my Zetec to get more ground clearance and because I had an offer of a cheap system... The thing is that the tank size can ony be small due to space. Again I got a tank on the cheap but it only has a capacity of about 2.2 litres. I do have a high flow filter which is another 1/4 of a litre or there abouts but still not much oil. By the time the thing is running and topped up I suspect about 3 litres. I do not have much experience with dry sump systems so any advice would be welcome.

Thats not a lot of oil at all!! I'd be far happier with a bigger tank myself but i guess thats not an option.

I think at the very least you are going to need an oil cooler in there - the oil is going to get very warm with so little capacity and the cooler will at least increase the capacity a bit more. Regular oil changes would be a wise move too

I have a drysump on my crossflow and run around 3.5 litres of oil total. No problems to date.

The local Formula Ford race prep guy told me they run around 2.5 litres total in the FF X-flows. To me thats is scarey.

You don't need as much for a dry sump, and one of the benefits is just that.

Unlike a wet sump, you do not need an overfilled resevoir (the sump) as you are not subject to it sloshing about.

Oil is always available in dry sump and so long as you change it slightly more regularily (on a race car - you would) the oil should be fine.

Its been proved many times that regular oil changes are better that more expensive oil and less changes.

As stated above an oil cooler will increase capacity as well, and if you use a remote bypass stat, nearer to the cooler-rad, you will always gain the extrac capity in the pipes, even when cold.
