How far out can the mixture screw come before the pilot jet needs enlarging?
Currently the mixture screws on my ZX9r carbs are out 3 turns but the AFR gauge sits at 16 idling.
Just wondering how far they can be turned out before either becoming ineffective or vibrate/fall out.

I'm surprised you can't get the mixture richer. Mine needs to be about 2 turns out to get the mixture lean enough.
I understand that float height also affects idle mixture, so maybe you need to riase the float height to richen it up a bit.
If they're screwed out a long way and you're worried about them falling out can't you add a lock nut?
If your AFR is 16 sounds like you've got a wideband lambda (in as much as you can measure it!!) Isn't it then obvious when they stop being
effective (ie cos the lamda stops changing!!)
Seriously unless your idle speed is so high you've using other jets you should be able to adjust
the AFR adequately just using the air screw...
Mine are one turn out
