The last 2 times ive come back from a run the engine has started to idle high just as im pulling up in the garage. One was a 2 hour drive and ive just
come back from a 15min blat. If I blip the throttle it still idles at around 2k and doesnt come down.
If I turn the engine off and start it 2 mins later its fine.
Its literally in the 30 secs before I pull in. So not a big problem just a bit annoying as when I dip the clutch to reverse the engine races.
Got a pinto with weber 45 carbs.
Any ideas?
Weak throttle return spring. Mine used to do it on webers until I added another spring and lubed the throttle cable.
I took the bonnet off while it was still running and the throttle was fully returned although the cable did seem quite tense.
Will go and have a look when its cooled down and see how tight the cable is.
Something expanding creating an air leak perhaps.???
I'd have to suspect the heat of the engine bay is causing the cable to stick. Try lubricating it and maybe adding a spring at the pedal end if you dont already have one. Also look to reroute if its passing near to the exhaust headers
Thinking about it, its probably as I slow and pull out of the fresh air the exhaust starts heating up the cable and making it stick.
