Drive it?

James - 18/5/09 at 09:39 AM

Rent one or drive it.

Just remember to insure it first.

It's what I did. Means your brakes will be bedded in nicely for the test too.

HTH,
James

Hire a van and a trailer is one option, contact a recovery company and see of they will dleiver and collect for a fixed price.

Have you sorted all your problems???... you have had a lot of posts in the last week or so. What happened with the rear wings, flooding, hoses??.......

Have you driven it at all before?

Make sure you fully check your cooling system is up to being stuck in traffic.

Highly recommend you check the fan comes on, it's bled fully etc. etc. There's nothing like the panic of being stuck in traffic with a rapidly over-heating car!

The traffic around Mitcham is pretty bad too, so make sure you leave with loads and loads of time.

There's a petrol station just opposite the track down which the SVA centre is based so you can fill up there (you have to have a full tank for the test).

Hope that helps, good luck,

James

That's the same distance we drove from Bradford to Chadderton in an untested car. What a blast, do it

iscmatt - 18/5/09 at 10:20 AM

driving mine from York to nottingham - about 70miles was fun no problems at all

tomblyth - 18/5/09 at 10:26 AM

carry a gallon of water and oil with you and join the aa/rac before you set off!
good luck

what kind of tools are vital to take i did pack a box full, but it ant gona all fit in the car now, gona take oil and water,

I was really lucky in that Ned was willing to come along with me so he drove the tintop and I filled it up with tools.

Bit of luck too as 5 miles from home I heard a knocking noise and discovered I hadn't done the wheel nuts up properly!!!

I also took my girlfriend along in the passenger seat so that I had a navigator in case I got lost!

I think she was a little bored though:

Sunny day, quiet SVA station

Watch out, as the RAC told me they would not come out to a car with no reg plate - so pretty much useless! I trailered mine to the test, and drove it some of the way home. Brilliant fun. Just make sure you have jump leads, oil, water, hoseclips, tools, a tow rope etc etc! I had my entire estate car (Honda Accord) full up with tools and trim etc, but in the end, I used a couple of spanners and a screw driver!

I drove mine best part of a hundred miles to the sva.
took my sat nav. tools (few spanners. few spare bolts pilers screwdriver. battery drill)
my jump pack which has a compresser. and it powered my sat nav.
also some egding. cable tyes. map book. spare bulbs. water oil.jack. wheel brace.
basicly everthing u would normally pack for a long drive. oh and a flask of coffee.
the rac won't deal with non registered vehicles. but green flag will.
