Sorry, this isnt really locost related but you guys seem to know everything about cars anyway! Just had a new clutch on my 106 gti cause i couldnt get any of the gears. When i left the garage it seemed fine, but since then it started not wanting to go into 1st and mostly 2nd gear. It only does it when the engine is cold and seems to hit something solid on the way into 2nd. If i hold some pressure against the gear lever, it goes in after a few seconds but seems like i can feel every tooth engaging! Doesnt crunch though. Can anybody suggest what this could be please? have a look that the gear linkage to the box isnt loose/obstructed.

you could be lucky! they may have left a nut loose

Sounds like the clutch isnt ajusted correctly.Can you select reverse ok.

Not all of the time. Forgot to mention that, it doesn't always go in reverse very easy.

If the linkage hasn't been adjusted properly could cause that. has it always been a pain to get it in reverse before the clutch was fitted? some manufacturers don't bother putting syncros on reverse gears

Its never really been a problem to get reverse before unless it was slightly rolling forwards so it probably doesnt have synchro on it any way but ill check the linkage this weekend. Thanks.

in my experience (limited i know...) those symptoms are caused by the clutch not disengaging properly. With the handbrake off on the level, does it start to roll forwards slowly as you press it into 1st? this would be the synchromesh passing some twist thru the box.

Could be that the garage that fitted the clutch possibly refilled the gear box with the wrong grade of gear oil , maybe 90ep. I think peugeot gearboxes should have something like 75w80 semi synthetic. Had the same problem with my Citroen, changed the gear oil and cured the problem . Worth a try. Rusty.
