Crossflow/DHLA Inlet Manifold
rayroni - 8/3/04 at 01:05 PM

The inlet manifold I have leaves my twin 40's higher than the top of the rocker cover due to its angle - this I believe was to allow for clearance of brake servo when originally in MK1 Escort.

The problem is this sticks through the top of my bonnet. As I don't want to re-jet my carbs can anyone tell me where I can get hold of a manifold that is 110mm long and 'horizontal'?

Cheers,
Andy

could you not machine the ends of the manifold to make it sit horizontal?

I believe thats been suggested before with respect to the Vauxhall engine.

I had this problem with my first manifold
bonnet clearance
bonnet clearance

Finally got a manifold from Rally Designs for £49.

You're correct the orginal manifold is for a MK1 rally car.

All the best Dan.

Mark - I'd thought about machining one face but thought the flange would end up to thin - hadn't thought of get both ends done though - doh!!

Dan - yep, that looks very familiar. Is your new manifold the same length as the previous one? If its shorter did you have to do any carb adjustments?

Thanks chaps, Andy

Yes the maniflod is shorter, but the carbs are seperate units so no adjustments are nessesary yet.

All the best Dan.

i had my intake machined on both sides for the carb to sit more level, and lower Rescued attachment S3000004.JPG

Scutter, nice looking lump, by the way.

With your manifold, carbs and filters on how far does it stick out from the head ?
I appreciate we can shorten our manifolds and get dumpy filters but I just want to know how far out of the bonnet my filters are going to pertrude ?
What is the effect of rain at 70mph on uncovered free-flow air filters ? I always wondered.

scutter - 10/3/04 at 09:20 PM

The trailing edge of the rear carb sits about level with the bonnet line, the leading edge is about 3/4's down the depth of the air filters.

I was planning a shield of maybe speedtape on the leading edge of the carbs during winter.

All the best Dan.
