907 Silencer
disco_biscuit - 21/6/09 at 02:48 PM

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Paul (907) for making me a cracking new silencer.

The build quality is stunning and its a good 10db quieter than the MNR original that had fallen apart it replaced.

I mainly notice it doesn't resonate half as much now and much better when cruising at low speed and on the motorway.

Just need to sort my rattling headers now

Roy

Hi All,

A couple of things came to light as we fired up Roy's stunning car.

Firstly, I must try to arrange these can tests so that they don't coincide with the church service.
I'm sure a rousing chorus of "Fight The Good Fight" doesn't help.

Secondly we noticed that there was a metallic ring to the engine note, traced to the tiny gaps between
the primaries. (see pic) When we wedged these apart and inserted strips of 16g ally between them we
knocked 3db off the reading. We also thought that the primaries to the 4 to 1 needed sorting too.

Roy's a top bloke and the build quality of his car is impressive. If I were looking at kits I'd look no further than an MNR.

I look forward to seeing the report in the parish magazine.

Cheers

Those headers are far too long and should be cut down. I was advised by Marc @ MNR to cut them down and he gave me a measurement that they should be. You then need a connecting pipe from the collector to the silencer.
This will also solve the problem of the headers rattling against each other.

Wonder why they didn't do that when MNR built the car?

I'm thinking of exhaust wrapping them, which should stop them rattling so much?

Or getting paul to make some bespoke ones
