Is this a T9 box??

Can someone please confirm that the picture (hopefully attached!) is a T9 Ford gearbox?

The output flange is massive, and wont fit in my tunnel!!!

I presume there is a simple solution to this?

I'm 90% sure that's a T9.

The input shaft seems weirdly long and thin though! Oooh err Missus!

As for the output shaft- that piece pulls off and you replace it with one without the donut on your new propshaft!

EDIT: Make that 80%- that input shaft is weird lookin- although may be the angle of shot!

EDIT: It's not from a V6 is it? The V6 input shaft is approx an inch longer.

I have just nipped out to the garage and i can confirm that the input shaft is approx. 180mm long, does that sound right? please say yes!!

Where can i get an output flange without the donut then i.e. what car is it standard on?

Output flange:

Capris, Cortinas (I believe- as Ned has one) and transit vans!

I found a prop lying by the side of the road (Officer) yesterday which has one- but I'm keeping that for mine! Especially as I had to go out at 1.30am in the snow to get it!

As regards the input shaft: I can't remember the length and can't find it out as I'm at work. Someone here will know though! If not there was a diagram kicking around- possibly ChrisW's archive?
I seem to remember someone yesterday saying the bellhousing was 7" (178mm) deep so if that's the case I guess your input is the correct length!

That's not much help is it! Sorry!

esa type 9 allright,you need a prop front from a transit/ldv/capri/cortina etc,the 1st motion shaft is longer on V6 but dont know the lengths

It would seem that you are correct James - when you say that someone posted information about the T9 being 7", it was in a reply to an earlier question by myself!!!

I should maybe check previous posts before placing new ones, asking basically the same questions!!!

Oh well, at least i have the info now!!

That output shaft is part of the prop as quoted. You will need the front of a Transit prop from a 5 speed box as I believe they have a different number of splines to the 4 speed box. I read somewhere that the LDV or Sherpa uses the same spline configuration though I have not confirmed it myself. The primary shaft probably looks longer because the bellhousing is missing. Try one of the vauxhall engine builders for a bellhousing as they replace theirs with an aftermarket one.

Input shaft length on my type 9 is 176mm to the face of the box. Raw Engineering do suitable bellhousings but I expect you have already researched that.

Can someone please confirm the outside diameter of the output shaft (across the splines) and the number of splines on a 5 speed T9 box.

This will hopefully put my mind at rest. I got a 2 piece prop from a MK1 Escort today and the sliding joint on it has a smaller diameter than the shaft on my box. This probably ties in with what Peteff said above, as it presumably originates from a 4 speed car.

Dare I say it,it doesnt look like the typical Sierra type 9 box to me.The box is far too big.Are you sure it's not a transit or a 3 litre capri box?.Type 9's are a great deal smaller than that.The face that the bellhousing fits onto is massive.I would get any model numbers of the castings and go to a ford dealer and see if they came help you.If it's a transit box,you'll run out of steam at 60 mph!!
