would a 1300 x flow box be strong enough on a 2.0ltr pinto?
They don't make gearboxes weaker for the smaller capacity engines, your box was used for the 1600, and is probably stronger than a type 9 as it only has 4 gears
The mk1 Escort 1300 box was barely strong enough for the 1100 escort never mind the 1300 a lot of people fitted 1600 engines and broke these boxes.
The MK2 Escort box was a stronger version that could take a 1600 with ease but a 2 litre would be pushing it, also the 2 litre clutch fouls the inside
of the bellhousing -- can be fixed by grinding.
Leaving out old Ford geraboxes like the much loved 2000e and the heavy but strong rod change RS2000/Ccortina 2 litre german box the box to go for is
a Sierra type 9 (look for cast iron case with removeable belhousing) 5 speed.
Sierra 4 and 5 speed boxes although heavier than the Escort box have the advantage of bringing the gearlever out futher aft. For more info see Rob
Lanes web site.
However... if you break a 4 speed box, another one can be had for a few pounds.

there were two 4 speed boxes on ebay, didnt even sell for a pound.
Therefore a type 9 is twenty five times the cost of a four speed.
