My replacement just before being dropped in (also a 1993 Zetec);

And just after;

I just stripped everything off it without taking off the head.

Personally I take all the tin stuff off from around the timing belt, I know it's meant to stop things from getting caught up and knackering the belt, but it looks better without

I'd replace the rocker cover gasket, the timing belt and the water-pump (which you'll need to do to get it turning the right way) that's about it

Unless it's been to the moon and back, it should be like new inside

Hi there, done mine recently, I'd change the cambelt and idlers, possibly the water pump while you're at it, and change the oil filter for a shorter one froma CVH engine, helps with clearance. Other than that, if it ain't broke.... Zetec rebuilds can very quickly cost you a lot of money.

Degrease and wire brush the block, then paint with finish of your choice. The head comes up nicely with wire wool (make very sure you have taped up ANY holes into the block to avoid getting crap where you don't want it. If you can afford it, get the cam cover powder coated, as it's the biggest bit everyone sees, and makes a big difference to the look of the finished engine. It doesn't take much to make it look better than new.

Also, the plastic covers for the cam pullies etc come up like new of you put them in the dishwasher!

Hope that helps

Cheers

Adrian

I once had a bit of gravel fly up into my unprotected timing belt - oddly the engine stopped

If you can't be bothered/afford powdercoating the cover, rub it down with wire wool and spray it black with a rattle-can, anything looks better than the "15 year old, never cleaned alloy" look

Mook, I would be worried, but every time we change the engine, we make a profit
Zetecs are cheap as chuff lately..

As above dont go much more than that.

Do the cambelt and a service and dress it up.

Bits for a full rebuild add upto around ££££

If it s from an escort the 1800 should have the correct water pump already fitted, not too bad to change anwayas ebay shops have them new for around £25 ish, as said just clean it up and bung it in. I ran mine in the escort 1st to check it over before liberating it from the car. Rescued attachment zetec plumbing 008.jpg
