Oil Pressure
mr bidd - 19/7/09 at 06:43 PM

Hello I am new to this site and new to the kit car scene. I have just brought a R1 powered Fury. Can anyone tell me what oil pressure it should run at. It has an oil cooler fitted and a turbo.

Thanks Chris

Hello Tom, Yes it is very quick but I think the engine has had it, it has very low oil pressure and it rattles top end (bought off ebay!!)Still gives me a project. I will get some photos up on the website when I've got it looking a bit more respectable.

Pop in your profile where you are - offers of help may be forthcoming.

Early (pre 03) R1's can have cam chain tensioner issues so it may be worth checking that. Have you got the manual for the bike - it may be available online.

PS welcome to the asylum. You'll fit in well if your first kitcar is R1 turbo powered!! Good man!!

think you might be getting bar and psi mixed up. martin/nitram38 said they run at 6psi at idle, i think he said about 70psi at 8000rpm

Was this the blue lemans bonnet one on ebay?

Hot idle is just under 10psi, something roughly like 10psi/1000rpm until the PRV opens at 75psi ish

definitely does not go as low as 10psi when its warming up it falls from 4 down to 1 or 2 bar and stays about that when driving along. When booting it it does go quite high maybe not the 7 i quoted above but near 6 when i glance down. maybe its the inaccuracy of a electric gauges but doesnt look far off of this http://www.fluke-motorsport.co.uk/technical/howto/200412_r1sumpbaffle/index.html

Thanks for all the info. My oil pressure is obviously far too low only goes up to 45psi, also nipped down the road in it tonight and that little rattle has turned into a great big rattle! So I got towed home and now I know it is time to rebuild the engine!!! Only had the car two days, probably covered 25 miles GUTTED!!! (I can pick em?)
