Type 9 woes....

I have posted a thread about clutch arms for the type 9, but I wonder if anyone can give any more advice on the problem...

I am putting type 9 onto my crossflow engine.

I am using the cortina 1600 pinto 190mm clutch kit with the release bearing that came in the kit, the clutch fingers are curly and the face of the bearing is flat.

I bought a 2.0 type 9 (with the end of the input shaft just shy of the face of the bell housing) and a clutch arm for a type 9 in two seperate sales.

Upon fitting all of the parts and mating the box and engine together, the release bearing hits the clutch fingers when the box is still a good inch away from the engine.

It will wind on with bolts, but you can see the clutch actuating the more you wind it on - up to the point where it is fitted to the engine and you have no drive.

The only problems I can see are...

Maybe wrong release bearing - do you need one off another clutch kit?

Clutch arm wrong - making the bearing sit futher forward than it is supposed to be?

Anybody else have any ideas??

Does the release bearing slide all the way down the shaft- or is it getting hooked up on the splined bit?
The release arm should help to hold the bearing central by way of 2 clips, is it clipped in OK?

Think there were at least 2 type of arms?

Isnt the V6 type 9 nose longer?

Not sure if this is the problem- as I would have thought the box would be hanging off the engine
Deffo got the arm hooked up the right side of the pivot?
Does the box slip on ok with the arm removed, but the bearing installed?

The QH catalogue has the kit for 1600 OHC mk 3,4 &5 having two options depending on gearbox. If 4 speed it would have 20 spline plate and cct133 release bearing. If five speed then 23 spline plate and cct132 release bearing, same as sierra release bearing. Does your clutch driven plate fit the type 9 input splines? Must be 23 spline if it does so it should have the cct132 bearing. Could be a mix-up and the wrong bearing got packed.
Or there is a problem with the clutch actuating arm.
Incidently curved fingers - flat faced bearing, flat fingers domed face release bearing.

Hi

Box if def not the v6 type, the input shaft is just shy of the face of the box, not poking out.

The release bearing is the smaller ct132 bearing I remember that!

The only thing I can see wrong then is the clutch arm. The type 9 ones i see on ebay have a "square"section in the midde and a smaller tapered end - like a cricket bat shape lol. mine isn't like that, more like a diamond shape.

I will try and hunt a new arm down before the weekend!
