Hi People.
I'm having real problems with the plumbing from the bottom of the MK5 cortina radiator to the inlet of the water pump. This coupled with the
alternator placement is giving me a headache.
Please could someone describe how they overcome the problem, a few pics would be a real help.

Oh and another thing. The alternator is FAR TOO BIG which car can you recommend I get one from?

i've not done the plumbing yet.
but for the alternator, i've used one for a 2cv (remember they need a seperate regulator)
got mine from www.ecas2cvparts.co.uk
you'll need to sort a mount too, but that's a coupla bits of plate bent at 90 degrees
2CV Alternator fits a treat, but you'll need to fabricate a new mount.
others have used a small mitsubishi alternator - but i don't know which one unfortunately so not much help am I !
If its any help I used a Diahatsu alternator mounted high up (see my pikkie archive) That gets it out of the way of the bottom hose.
It's not as close to the exhuast manifold as it looks either.
what problems are you having with the radiator hoses? i ended up using the vulcoflex hoses from europa, these are really good hoses, bend to any
angles and the can be ordered with different sized ends if needed. I got a 38 to 32mm hose, about 500mm long. Could be called expensive at around £15
but it gets the job done so its ok in my books!

Jonti. You don't know what alternator is off do you?
JoelP Rad hose has been a real pain in the but because of the tigtness of the locost chassis.
i used the top hose off a bmw e30 318 as my bottom hose,fits a treat,alternator as fitted to bedford rascal etc

I used a Mitsubishi alternator on a pinto. The part number is in the picture description -

a std sierra bottom hose costs 20 quid so 15 isnt bad!

I went for the Bedford Rascal (CairB's Mitsubishi- I think!) option too. It's a little larger than the 2CV but it was the same price as a
2CV regulator so seemed the simple option!
Took about 20mins to extract from the Rascala long with it's mounts.

I used a Capri bottom hose cut and extended with some straight pipe and a couple of 28mm copper pipe fittings. A 90 degree bend gets it round the steering rack. The alternator wasn't a problem as I put the engine bay brace on the opposite side before I fitted the engine.
