First Run!!

Finally got the engine running today!

Eventually it started running on all 4 cylinders but still sounds a bit tractorish! It might be because i havnt sealed the silencer properly yet.

Couple of problems i noticed. There was a bit of smoke from the oil filler cap if i took the it off the cam cover after running, there was also a small bit of smoke drifting out of the top water pipe (i havent connected any coolant hoses yet).

Also the carbs seemed to open up a bit by them selves, we would open it up and it would rev higher itself. Could this be just the carbs sticking as they havent been used for a while? The spring comes back but the engine just carries on revving.
The carbs are weber twin 45s.

We havent run it for long as we havent got any cooling, will it improve if we connect the cooling and run it for longer?

Thanks

Are the carbs new? If not its worth getting some new return springs for them as they are known to get 'tried'.

You haven't been 'rough' fitting the linkage kit have you? Might have bent/twisted throttle spindles making them bind
