Are there adaptor plates available to fit a 2l fiat twin cam engine to a ford type 9 gearbox?
I think it was Nick Davidson who tried for ages to do it, try a search. The main problem is the starter which is on the wrong side, so a completely redesigned bellhousing would probaby be needed. Nothing is impossible, just expensive!!
Guy Croft shows an example of an adapter plate in "Modifying and Tuning Fiat/Lancia Twin Cam Engines". That book's probably nearly 10
years old now though.

I think you can use a Lada gearbox if you don't get anywhere with the adaptor idea. You might have to go to Russia to find one though
Yep, Lada Riva/Niva gearbox is a copy of the old Fiat one
had a couple of ladas,boxes are made of chocolate tho
Alfa used the Fiat 5 speed on the live axle RWD cars
Has no one tried modifiying the bellhousing themselves? Cutting out the starter mount and moving it to the other side can't be that hard I'd
have thought!
They're cast steel aren't they? So should be weldable.
Or maybe that's just a rubbish idea!

Looked all over that poxy website of theirs- can't find it.

A box from a Fiat 124 / 131 /132 will fit.
There are two versions, the later one is match stronger. These boxes won't fit the 16 valve engines with balance axes.
Trying to find one in the U.K. is like looking for the end of the rainbow. I looked for one for ages.

A fiat box isn't a problem as there are currently 2 in the garage. The problem is these parts came out of scrap cars and were intended to go in
an existing car so no reg documents were acquired. To avoid a q plate it would be easy to acquire a pinto sierra, get through the SVA and then swap
the engine for the superior fiat twin cam (flame suit on ). I guess the box will have to get swapped as well.
I am using a Pinto 2.0i, but I agree, the Fiat TC is a real jewel of an engine. I wanted to use a tuned F.I.R.E engine to begin with, but the box problem lead me to the Pinto for an easy (did I really say that!) life
