Type9 gearbox input shaft diagram
GuyA - 8/4/04 at 03:05 PM

Hi All,

I once saw a diagram of the difference in length between a Pinto and a V6 input shaft on the type 9 gearbox but I can't find it now, Does anyone have such a thing? or the dimentions of the different shafts?

The reason I ask is I want to get a 2.8 XR4X4 manual with type 9 and fit a type 9 RWD box to it. Has anyone actualy done this? any comments?

the type 9 4x4 and type 9 RWD 'boxes are exactly the same forward of the transfer 'box, the 4x4 (as far as I know) uses the same long input shaft as the RWD (V6)

Basically, to sum it up, the V6 (4x4 2.8 or RWD 2.3 Sierra or 2.8 as in Capri/Granada) used the long input shaft, the 4 cyl used the short one. The 4 cyl 'box used smaller layshaft bearings though and you wouldn't want to use this with the V6 by putting in a long input shaft as the layshaft bearings would probably break up.

Check out this thread, there are a couple of very useful diagrams on type 9 dimensions. May be helpful, i was after similar information a few weeks ago.

Cheers

sorry, forgot to add the thread link first time!!

Thanks for all the info, the picture is exactly what I was looking for.

Now I've got to find a type9 V6 gearbox near to Cambridge!
