header tanks
cd.thomson - 19/11/09 at 10:37 AM

Just after suggestions really, could anyone recommend a plastic header tank with a pressure cap, 1 inlet and 1 outlet and easily mountable (i.e. has a convenient bracket to fix to my scuttle)?

I'm buying 2 self sealing hose take offs from merlin but they only do 12/13mm push on fittings so 13mm tails would be ideal too

someone (philw i think) suggested a corsa one to me. he's using the ecotec, same as me.
might be worth looking at.
its a vauxhall, so size of pipes etc should work out with your red top easy enough

I'm not using any of the original pipe work though - 32mm silicon/metal pipe work through out, with a self sealing spur in the top and bottom main hoses with 13mm id pipe back to the header tank.

I will have a look at the corsa ones. Ta!

ETA - looks perfect, thanks Blake

i just mean the size of the outlets on the engine should match the tank etc.
not like my transit radiator which has 38mm things and 32mm on the engine. and needing to get all sorts of adapters etc lol

Mine is from a rover 25. Came with a great mounting bracket that was easily bendable to suit and has one outlet and one inlet

The polo header tank 1994-2001 are pretty nice round things that easily slot into place on a bolt head with one retaining nut

I used one on both cars I built!

Rover 25 ---- oval shape -- very popular with car builders
Rover 45 --- rectangular shape.
Old shape Rover 214 --- rectangular but designed to mount fore and aft.

Nearly all header tanks have larger bore outlets than inlets.

Best way to put a connection into a hose is use an inline temperature gauge adapter housing to join the hoses and drill & tap for an adapter. CBS will supply it ready custom made for you.

(you can also find these adapters very cheaply on eBay)

Or you can use the plastic modular hose adapter system CBS also sell.

Renault have a nice round small barel style header tank.

As above. I'm using one from a Mk1 Phase 2 Renault Clio, complete with metal mounting bracket which can sit on the scuttle or footwell cover.

Cost me £5 all in from the scrappy, along with a few other little bits.....
