is header tank location an issue, i want to move mine to just behind the rad infront of engine, so the pipe work is reduced as it will be easy to feed straight into bottom hose and will make it all alot neater,it will still as high as the engine sits on the car

Mine is actually sited just under the nose cone, I have to swing the nose cone foreword to top it up, (very seldom). Cheers Ray

im having a header tank made to fit where i want it to, is the amount of coolant it hold important to cooling?

header tank must allow for the expansion of water.

a good rule of thumb would be to look at size/capacity of tanks made by car manufacturers - one would expect Ford/Audi/Volvo/BMW/Rover etc. to have a reasonable idea about this.
