i have just bought a 1660 x/flow that is on twin 40's. its an ex rally engine but has had the standard mech fuel pump removed because the guy had an electric fuel pump.
what i want to know is shall i put the standard one off my old 1300 on or add a solid state facet fuel pump 1.5 to 4.0 psi.
what pressure does the standard mech ford pump produce?? if i use a electric on at 1.5 to 4 psi will i need a filter regulator?
anyone done this before as i dont want to waste time with trial and error.

I think you'll find that a standard mechanical pump will not keep up with demand and on high throttle openings, the float chambers will run dry.

You'll have no such problem with a Facet Red Top and Filter King pressure regulator.

You will only need a facet cube type pump.

Then a fuel pressure regulator to take the pressure down t around 2 psi max.

I would always recommend fitting an electric pump as you can then let the pump run a few seconds to fill the chambers and then as soon as you crank it should fire up. No need to crank to pump fuel up to the carbs.

I ran one to start with but the continuous loud ticking drove me mad that's when I changed to a Red Top.

what was it in i cant hear anything in my locost except engine and wind (not mine!!)

if the pump runs all the time how does it stop the fuel when the carb bowls are full and the floats shut the valve does it push past, over fill the carbs and then p**s out all over the floor??
