Engine running in and dyno
macspeedy - 22/4/04 at 05:57 PM

I have spent the past few days getting my pinto running and run in on a dyno, luckily, the 45s' where jetted as advised in tunning books there where a few teething problems to start with as a core plug had corroded through easily fixed though, the engine produced 155bhp after the run in, but the air to fuel ratio was far too high so some smaller jets will be fitted this should see around another 10 bhp hopefully 170bhp if it gets that high i will be over the moon as its the first complete rebuild and porting work i have ever done! we have also made an electronic ignition system which we should have time to run with the engine next week, this will give a fully programmeable advance curve at every 200 rpm which is preferrable over altering the distributor.. maybe a product there..mm

170bhp! Blimey, nice one

Out of interest what work have you done to the engine? Whats the extent of the porting? etc

Cheers

The bottom end was balanced (pistons, conrods, flywheel and clutch) then put together with a reground crank and new pistons and arp big end bolts. The block rebored and honed, top end opened up the inlets so they matched inlet manifold blended valve guide stems into valves stems new valves and 3 angle seats with further blending around the seats as that is the most critical area and the exhaust ports were smoothed and matched to the exhaust manilfold new bearings fitted all round and a kent fr32 cam kit and adjustable vernier think that is everything

Did you fit bigger valves or just new ones?

Also if people are looking for a machine shop in the Edinburgh area i have nothing but praise for 'Engine services' in Rosewell 0131 440 0201 they are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Managed the time to fit in the final runs!the main jets where to rich so 135's where fitted instead of 145's a significant increase was noticed from 152 to 158 bhp we are also playing with our home made electronic ignition system but that will have too wait untill we are on the road, but dyno runs on other pintos are in the pipe line! yahoo..

What sort of price was the work done to your components? Have been looking for a machine shop nearby, so glad to hear of a recommendation.

cheers
