Does anyone know where I can get short term insurance from? I want something for a couple weeks. I'm looking for a new donor (don't ask) and ideally want to insure it to drive home, and then put a few miles on it for a couple of weeks to make sure everything is running well. I've contacted Footman James and they only do 12 month policies. My regular insurance company (Endsleigh) suggested taking a year's insurance and then cancelling after a fortnight, but you lose a huge amount of your premium if you cancel in the first month.

Any suggestions?

I know a mate who used to get insured a month at a time (not direct debit, actual monthly insurance) through Adrian Flux. Give them a ring, they may be able to help you out.

The car is not classed as yours untill the v5 is recieved at the dvlc, if you know what I mean

If you already have insurance on another vehicle then register it in a freinds name and borrow it for a while under the any other vehicle clause on your own insurance.

That's alright till he comes for his car back. I'm insured with Adrian Flux and they only did 12 month policies on kit cars with no refund for cancellation last year. That was on a limited milage policy though.

I meant on a normal car policy. My mate had a rover 600 and a VW Sharan, they just got them insured a month at a time when they wanted them, and always with Adrian Flux....dont know if they still do that though...

Not much of a mate if he takes his/your car back, but make sure it is legal in all other respects or you can be prosecuted for any offence and he could be prosecuted for aiding and abetting.
One offence,two fines,licence to print money.

I think for that one to work it has to be covered in your mates name and he has to be the main driver. It also only covers the vehicle third party. Now if it was an and spouse policy in your wifes name.

I guess it depends upon the insurance company, but quite a lot will allow a "temporary additional vehicle". I did that when used my donor sierra and it cost me about £25 for a month, think I sorted it for a couple of days for £5 when I bought it too. That is with Privilege.

Adrian Flux isn't interested in anything less than 6 months.

I was mostly interested in getting the thing home. I think the best plan is going to be to get the car, and then get a friend to drive it home for me (we're both insured for dring a car that isn't ours). Plans have changed slightly, and it looks like driving it around a bit isn't going to be important.

I phoned my insurance company (Churchill) and told them that i was doing and they swapped the cover on to the donor car (only) for a month. I think it only cost me a few quid. As I got the donor car for free and it was MOTed and Taxed i had a really really cheep month!
