OIL PRESSURE HEEEELLPP !!
Fifer - 25/4/04 at 02:46 PM

Running X Flow first time with OP switch and Gauge, No Oil Pressure. There is oil flow from Filter, To Pressure switch and pressure sensor hole but no pressure on gauge and light wont go out !!
Engine rebuilt by specialist and cost a fortune (cant phone him as weekend) I think there may be a plug missing from Gallery. Anyone know where these plugs are ? Is there one on timing case end that the oil would wee out from if it was missing into thge sump ??

HELP

Drop the sensor in a jug of petrol for a few hours and try again - they don't like being dry for any amount of time. If the pressure was that low while running, it would be rattling like a bastard

Could be a faulty oil pressure relief valve stuck in open position. Would have thought the oil pump was primed if oil is getting to filter, but may be worth checking ??, presume oil level has been checked??, hope this helps best of luck . Rusty

As Rusty nuts says pull the pump off and check the relife valve --- also check you have the correc oil filter it should be the same as a mid 70s on Mini and has no internal anti run back valve Framn number was PH966B..

XFlos didn't suffer from oil pump priming difficultes after a strip down so unless pulling the pump off and changing the filter reveals something its off with the sump and check the pickup tube.

There is a gallery plug under the timing cover. It's located above the front cam bearing slightly to the left and should have a grub screw in it. Luckily it is easy to get to, just a pain in the arse having to check.

YaaaHooo
Found the problem !
After removing pump and checking relief v/v and pump etc, removed timing case (the gaskets are new so they didnt break) removed camshaft wheel and low and behold, no plug in oil gallery !! The oil was coming from pump into gallery and pissing into the timing case. "TBlue" you were right, good call. Just fitted a 1/4 npt (I think) plug and rebuilt.
Well, hope there is no upper valve gear damage, sounds sweet enough now but guess who is getting a phone call tomorrow !!!
The engine was farmed out by EscortsRS to a so called engine builder for overhaul, Cost me a fortune so he will be getting it tomorrow.
Just found another problem, my left hand drive shaft popped out on the cars maiden voyage out of the garage (10 Feet). Looks like the drive shaft has been shortened too much. Will post in drive train section for next help call !!

Thanks for the help and ideas every one.
